Karkitaka is the last month according to the Keraleeya calendar. It falls from July 16th to August 15th-16th every year. According to Ayurveda, Varsha Rtu (Monsoon) is highly significant for health care. The low immune index during this month increases the possibility of getting diseases. The Karkitaka chikitsa during this particular time period helps to prevent disease onset and serves as preventive care. Ancient people strictly followed Ayurveda culture, starting each day by waking up early and adhering to a routine. Every year, people undergo a completely revitalizing or immunizing treatment process as advised by a doctor/Vaidya. According to Vaidyas/Doctors, a special treatment along with specially cooked porridge, which is medicated with more than 20 medicinal herbs, is given to the person along with ancient Ayurvedic medicated therapy each day, spanning over a period of 14 days. This approach brings a complete balance of Tridosha (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) and Swasthya (wellness) to the person.
